The new year is coming around in a very short time and already I am dreaming of what this next year brings. There's nothing really special about January 1st, it happens every year. It's just a change of calendar, but it feels kind of magical. This year I'm already beginning to manifest the things I hope to accomplish this coming year. This list tends to get longer every year as I have opened up a Pandora's box by wanting to making things from scratch.
Here are a few things I really want to check off my list this coming year:
- make a good wheel of hard cheese
- have successful garden that I can eat from at least once a day
- make dish-washing after dinner a habit
- learn to observe a situation before making a judgement
- reduce the amount of new purchases I make and learn to thrift better
- learn to crochet
What are you envisioning for yourself this year? What will you really make happen?
I too want to make cheese this year. I heard mozzerella is the easiest to start with so that's where I will begin. Thrifting is SUCH FUN, and I really look at it as a challenge, to outfit my whole family with upcycled items. I must admit, living in Phoenix/Scottsdale, I am spoiled rotten with INCREDIBLE Goodwill and Savers stores, both in quantity and quality, but my favorite part of the month is my biweekly thrifting trips.
ReplyDeleteamie: mozzerella is totally fun to make and really easy!
ReplyDeleteone of my over all goals for next year is to just stop shopping all together. lol we have so much stuff already. lol
Amle@Itsystich- Ricotta is way easier to make then mozzarella. I make it on a weekly basis. Just take whole milk heat it to 195 then add in apple cider vinegar. Stir until the curds separate from the whey. Then drain the curds into a cheese cloth for about a minute then and put into a container and use as normal. So easy!
ReplyDeletemomto5- I think I'm going to have no shopping weeks this coming year. The first one will start next week. I'm going to try to only use stuff from my freezer and pantry. Look for a post about it soon!
What a great idea to have and set goals for the new year something I needed to do.
ReplyDeleteI hope you post about your cheese making process:)
I also set some goal on my blog inspired by your post..so thanks!!
fairyluver- I'm so glad I was able to inspire you. I will surely be posting about the cheese making. Look for tutorials and recipes to come.
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting..... I have to say that I'm in the process of writing my intentions for 2012. I will try to remember to post a link when I publish it... tomorrow?!
ReplyDeleteI hold your intentions in my hand for a moment and look forward to witnessing you as you make them a reality! If we lived closer, I'd take you thrifting! :)
best, Jules
Jules- Thank you so much. I wish we could go shopping together because I'm going to have to learn this thrifting thing from scratch. I need to learn to envision the remaking of whatever I'm buying.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across your blog this morning looking for info on soap nuts and what a find! I couldn't belive that your resolutions are nearly verbatium the list I created for myself two days ago! I'll be stopping back often to see what your doing!
ReplyDeleteYou can find me at www.sticknloans.blogspot.com (starting to blog...again... is also on my list)!
Good list! I posted a list of goals last year and just recently did a re-visit on my blog and realized that I essentially accomplished everything but one item...what a great feeling! 2012 is going to be another year of upheaval for us as we're expecting baby #3, so I'm trying to keep my expectations low on what we can really accomplish or what types of new projects we can take on. Getting settled as a family of 5 feels like a tall order at the moment!
ReplyDeleteAs for thrifting in Tucson, I love a little shop up in Oro Valley called Sweet Repeats for baby/children's stuff. As I'm having to re-accumulate maternity and baby gear for this go-round I have found almost everything I've needed there at good prices and in new condition. I also love the Savers down near Costco on Thornydale and the Oro Valley Goodwill is great. There is a fantastic re-sale shop that offers bigger items like furniture and housewares from the estate sales that are put on by The Girls, located at Grant/Dodge. And Craigslist for specific items of course...
Kirstna- Welcome! It's funny how similar we all are. I really love that the internet has become an easy way to find people with your same interests. I hope you do come back and join in the conversation often.
ReplyDeleteLeah- I imagine adding a 3rd baby would really make things a challenge. Right now with Viola being 4 months old it's quite a challenge, I think some nights how could I possible manage three? I guess you just make it happen! Thanks for the thrifting info too! I'll try to keep you all up dated on how it goes.
I think your list is wonderful, and doable. After years of grandly vowing to lose weight, save money, and get my house decluttered, I've decided that this year's vow is the just be gentle with myself. To treat myself lovingly: sleep when I'm tired, eat nourishing foods, cry when I feel I want to, write more. Do the things I love, give myself permission to say no.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of practical things I'm hoping for: build a root cellar/cold storage room, and grow something(s) to put in it! Simplify our diet right down to whole foods. Go for a walk every day. That's all for now!
Knitty Gritty-Those are really great goals. I think that's what most people need to realize is the pedestal goals don't really work. It's the goals we can put our feet into and get really dirty with that allow us to make the biggest changes.
