Fall garden coming in...

So over the weekend I ripped up all the summer plants that weren't producing anymore and put in new soil because a few weeks back I raised the beds up another 8 inches. I'm hoping this will solve a lot of my problems with production and healthy plants. Yesterday I squared off my beds like I did for summer with twine and then planted lots of seeds. I planted carrots, parsnips, chard, beets, peas, leeks, garlic, onions and sage. I might do potatoes as well, I haven't decided yet. October 1st I will do another session of planting so I have some later crops, succession planting they call it.

For some reason I always go out to the garden in shorts and sandals. Sandals are not ideal for gardening. I can't help it though. I get so excited to see what is going on out there that I just forget to put on close toe shoes.

Daniele was a big help and Sofia as well. She hung out in her waterless pool while we filled the beds with dirt! You'll notice I have a lot of tall weeds and grass ahhh! Anyone have a weed whacker? I keep meaning to buy one and then forget every weekend. Thank goodness the HOA can't see the back yard.

  1. Hoping our raised bed garden will look something like that very soon! We are ripping out the awful-matches-every-other-house-on-the-block landscaping on one side of our house this weekend. My compost has been going strong for months and next spring we are going to start the building! So excited.

  2. Awesome! Do you know a lot about compost? Or enough to tell beginners about? I've got a compost bin but it has no where enough compost to help out my beds.
