For months and months, we've been thinking about getting a new car. For years we've had one car, a little two door hatch back. It's served us very well, taking us on tons of road trips and throughout the deserts and into the mountains. We've packed it the gills when going camping. When Sofia arrived, the space got a bit tight. Having to climb into the back seat every time I needed to get her in or out was bait of a pain. It made taking a sleeping baby out almost impossible. We knew at some point we'd need to get a second car.
If I needed the car for the day, we would have to work the drive to Daniele's work around Sofia's nap time, so she would sleep in the car instead of scream. Now that she is down to one nap a day the nap time car rides don't work any more. Plus making four trips back and forth from his work to our house was really stressful for Sofia.
I had a moral struggle with getting this car for a long time. I really didn't want us two have two vehicles because it costs more, is more taking on the environment and means we have one more thing to own and maintain. I desperately wanted to be able to use public transport but Tucson is not that kind of city. In Tempe I could ride my bike, take the free shuttle or hop o a bus or the light rail. Where we live now I haven't even been able to find a bus stop. The park and library are only five minutes by car from our house but on foot it would be really tough. In the summer all but impossible due to the heat.
So I held out for a year. But now that Sofia is old enough for the park and story time and we go on hikes and play dates and outings a second car really seemed necessary. In the end the southwest is not a one car family friendly place.
This past Friday we bought a new car. It's 2006 but it's in fantastic shape. The previous owners kept such great care of it that it looks brand new.
We went to a party did errands and have even gone to story time and the park in it already. Getting a baby out of the back of the car with four doors is so easy it's almost laughable.
Needless to say I am very happy with this new car.
