Arts and Crafts Power

Lately I have been trying to finish up a lot of crafty projects that I started months ago and never finished. I finally finished the family picnic blanket!

I also made pair of lounge/pj pants. Unfortunately these were supposed to be for the summer, they are super light weight cotton and now it's too cold to wear them!

And the real kicker, on-the-fly house slippers for Daniele. He has been saying he needs these for like 5 months now.

So finally I got on it and did some research and bought some fabric. Needless to say they are getting a lot of use. I'm going to make a pair for myself as well and when I do I will put up a tutorial. I have yet to find a good tutorial on backless house slippers out there.

Next is a holiday dress for Sofia. I've got the pattern drawn up already I just need to cut out the fabric and sew!

Lastly, my potential little business. I've done as much research as I can do, my brain hurts! But I have figured this out. In order to be legal and not have any problems down the road I need to do the following:
  • get a business license and tax license for Tucson
  • get Arizona TPT or sales tax license
  • register my company name under DBA or "doing business as"
  • get an EIN number from the IRS so I don't have to show the world my SSN
  • an of course accurate book keeping to I can pay quarterly taxes if I actually make money
After I do all that, I can open my shop and hope to sell something. At the moment I'm not sure if it's worth it. I have the confidence to jump in and list stuff to sell and ship it out to whoever bought it. But I'm not so sure about having to pay taxes. I understand that I would pay taxes if I make over $400 in profit. I would hope I make that much but I really can't say. I could either sell few things, lot's of things or nothing at all. To jump or not to jump? What do you think readers? Should I really add a home business on top of being a mom?

  1. wow - lots of finished projects! i hope to get some started & finished this weekend too.

i say go for the online business. how much would it cost to get those licenses? once you sold enough to make back those expenses, then all you have to worry about is quarterly taxes, if above the amount. online would mean having a supply of items ready to send once they are ordered - and being prepared to make more as you go along. my friend in ME is going to open her online business soon...hopefully by new years. i can pass along your email to her if you want to talk to someone...even in a different state

  3. I love your store! I would love to buy one of those picnic quilts, although that probably takes quite a bit of time. :)
