I'm sorry I have been absent for a few days. I'm looking into starting up my own Etsy shop to sell some made by me goodies, like head scarves, big mama purses and kids toys. I got the shop account open it's called Olive and Owl. I was going to call it Chirpy Bird but that was already taken. I was super excited to list some of the items that I have already, but then my mom said, "you should get a business license." A what? I have now spent the last two days trying to figure out what I need for a sole-proprietor online shop. Well the business license is easy to get, it can be done online, but then there are the taxes: city, state, and federal tax. But I thought there was no sales tax for online purchases? I don't want to mess around with the IRS at all. I want to do this right if I'm going to do it.
At the moment I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the thought of paying taxes quarterly, when I don't even know if people will really buy my stuff. I just want to have some fun being crafty and selling some things to support my craftiness.
I welcome any and all advice in this matter. Thanks readers!!
have you emailed other etsy shop owners to ask them some questions about setting up shop? i bet there is some discussion online somewhere too...just don't know where..
