Yesterday we had our very first paint session. Well not the first first that would be here. But it was the first where Sofia was doing the painting. I used natural vegetable pigments from Glob It On. I love these paints.
I got out my paint brushes and a huge sketch pad and just let Sofia go for it. It took her a while to warm up. She really had no idea what to do. Painting her knees and then telling me she was dirty seemed the best option to her.
But then I dipped her hands in to the paint and told her to get messy. That's when the fun started.
For next time I think I will get her small paint brushes. I would also like to try the Clementine Art paints. They come premixed. Not that mixing pigments with water is all that hard, but at least they are already ready to go.
Here Sofia is admiring her art work while drinking some milk.
I LOVE kid art! We're re-doing our guest room and I've framed several of my son's paintings to hang on the walls in there...they are SO great! When my kids were little and doing this style of painting I would take those larger paintings, cut them up and paste them onto card stock--they make great notecards. Grandparents got a set of homemade notecards several years in a row!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I might have to make our holiday cards that way.
ReplyDeleteTell Sofia I think her art is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love painting sessions. Every Spring I buy my boys each a 12 X12 inch canvas and have them paint it. So much fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm just itching for the day when she is ready for acrylic paints. It may not show up very much on this blog but I am an artist. I put away most of my materials due to their toxic nature when I got pregnant. I think once she's three or four the real art fun can begin. For now more paint!
