I'm finally at a point where I thought I should share with you all Sofia's summer wardrobe. I'm particularly in love with the newest addition the shirred whale dress.
I purchased this fabric back in March and have been procrastinating the making of it. I first needed to learn to shirr. I found a great tutorial/PDF from Made. With that taken care of I went to it. This dress was super fast to make with the addition of my new serger to finish the edges.
So far in the collection we have two dresses, three shirts, three pairs of shorts (made from my old shirts) a skirt and kurti which will make a nice cover up for the beach in two weeks.
I still have two more dresses, a skirt and another hat to make. Sofia really seems to love these clothes and always pulls them first from her closet. I think because they are made of lighter fabric then store bought clothes and have less bulk in the shoulders. She is constantly complaining about the shoulders of factory made clothing.
I love making clothing. I more I try the better the dresses look. It gets more and more exciting with each piece!

These are great! I can't wait to see photos of Sofia in all of her beautiful new outfits!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing job! Can u make my clothes please?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'll try to post some pictures soon of Sofia modeling her new digs.
ReplyDeleteOk. So I've been trying to figure out how to sew with elastic thread to make a shirred dress too. My last attempt was a flop and I can't figure out why. Any tips on shirring? I've looked at youtube videos and read a few blogs but I need help!
ReplyDeleteI tried this on both my old and new machine and couldn't get it to work. What I found out was that with many machines especially Brother, is you need to change the bobbin tension. If you take out the bobbin casing there is a little screw you can tighten or loosen. You need to play around with it. The only thing is that once you change it from the factory setting it's hard to get it back to being right. I would suggest getting a second bobbin case. In my case I have two machines. My new fancy pants one and my old one. I just use the old one for shirring!
