Quilty as charged...

Sorry for the long absence. We've been mighty tired around here due to Sofia having some sleep regression issues. I have a post coming up soon about the situation and the solution. But for now I wanted to share with you all the quilt I finally finished for Baby P. With only two weeks to go before the due date I wanted to make sure I got all my major projects done, so I've been away sewing at night instead of blogging.

I have a new found respect for quilters. It's a ton of work. I took the easy way out and just did a normal patch work quilt from fat quarters. I didn't even do any fancy quilting patterns, just "stitch in the ditch" as they call it, or following the pattern lines.

Despite that it took me a week and a half to make this. Figuring out the final size and then how big to make the squares, arranging and re-arranging them. Then sewing them all together and pressing the seams. Putting together the three layers of the top, batting and the backing then pinning those all together. Finding the walking foot for my machine and testing that out with different stitch lengths before quilting it all together. Then finally adding on the binding.

I can't even imagine how long it would take to hand-quilt a full size quilt; machine-quilting a baby quilt was slow enough. Overall I'm really happy with it and learned a lot in the process. After the baby is born and some time opens up for me, I think I will try tackling a rectangular patchwork quilt for Sofia. I've been eyeing the Tula Pink Prince Charming collection and the Heather Ross Far and Away bundle for it, though I just saw this while looking for the links and I might have to make a full size quilt for our Indian-themed guest bedroom!

What have you made since I've been gone?
