All slung up

Sofia, much to my delight, has become a crunchy hippie mommy like me! Minus the plastic baby doll. My homemade doll seems to be a little too abstract for her right now, she liked it very much but she loved the Corolle doll we found in a local toy shop. In any case, the doll is a whole other blog post. This one is about the wrap I made her.

She sees me carry around Viola in a wrap almost all day long, so she kept asking me to turn her silk scarves into a wrap. But the silk was to slippery and the doll constantly fell out of it, so finally I looked around in my stash of fabric and found a cute monkey fabric. Only problem, Sofia hated it; she kept saying she didn't want a wrap anymore when I knew she did. Then one afternoon after I had finished making a changing pad cover from the awesome Robert Kaufman minky fabric, Sofia came up with the scrap piece I had put on the back of a chair and said, "I want the owls". I then replied, "You want a wrap but you don't like the monkeys?" She said yes and then I serged up this sling wrap for her really quick.

I used this tutorial and it took me about 5 minutes using the serger. In fact, Sofia was so excited she waited the 5 minutes for me to make it! She now loves the wrap and wears it for hours at a time, only taking it off to "breastfeed" the doll.

  1. Oh, girls are so nurturing! Moms of boys don't get to see this sort of behavior much... As sweet as my boys are, and they do both actually love babies, they would never use a sling much less carry a baby around for an extended period of time! That's just adorable.
