This my urban homesteading, baby wearing, make it from scratch, kind of hippie, a whole lot of green kind of blog.

Apple Picking at Brown's Orchard
This past weekend I packed up the family and drove two hours east to this wonderful organic orchard called Brown's Orchard. The weather was wonderfully cool when we got there which made picking fruit so delightful! This orchard is really delightful as it is smaller and less people go there, unlike Apple Annie's that we used to go to, which is a mad house tourist attraction. For most of the time we were there, we were the only ones which made it feel a bit surreal, albeit magical! Except for the flys, can't escape flies in an orchard.
Sofia ate a lot of pears, more then she put into the buckets.
She gave a lot of the fallen fruit to the horse as well. There was an alpaca as well but he wanted neither the fallen apples nor to have his picture taken!
Because I am so pro breastfeeding I wanted to show you that you can do it an where even while picking apples.
Of course another pit stop to feed the pigs some fallen fruit. An in true toddler fashion Sofia stuck her finger in the pig's nose when it tried to smell her. These little guys were so cute. It make me want have one. But more it make me want to raise one to have my own pork in the freezer! One day when we own our home...
This is not a picture of sheep, but in true organic farming fashion this orchard puts their sheep out to graze on the grass in the orchard and fertilize the soil with their droppings. Seeing a flock of sheep made it seem a bit like a fairy tale. It made me think a lot of Italy. You see a lot of sheep in the countryside there.
Here is Daniele doing some manual labor! This is a very rare sighting as I am handy-woman in the house. Need a toilet fixed call me. Need some dragons slayed call him.
For twenty-five dollars we got 50 pounds of apples! I'm working on canning quarts of apple sauce and drying apple slices for snacking.
