A trip to my childhood home

Alright, I know I said I would send postcards... but here me out, I only had an Ipad to work with while I was away and I was on vacation, so I got a little lazy. But I took a lot of pictures so word to the wise this post is a little picture heavy.

First off I'd like to say now to anyone who reads this blog that lives in New Mexico, I'm sorry I didn't contact you, but organizing with two little ones is just a lot of work. I wanted our stay there to be as stress free as possible for them.

That said, we had a great time. We ate a lot and I cooked a lot. It was so heart warming to cook for four generations of women in my family. I made them apple cider doughnuts, spicy pumpkin and sausage pasta, pumpkin soup, tomato soup with croque monsieur. Oh yes and as a treat we made chocolate chip cookies and spiced ginger cookies.

We had hot chocolate at my favorite shop Kakawa. Above you see the Aztec warrior. 100% chocolate, plus chili, herbs and flowers. Oh yes and no sugar! I all I have to say was I felt empowered.

We ate New Mexican food then walked around Santa Fe in the sun, while it snow.

We dug through the shed looking for my childhood. I found really interesting bits and pieces left. These shoes, my old kitchen set, the toaster we had when I was growing up, #1 fingers from my high school.

We chatted with old friends and took the most wonderful walk down by the river under the cotton wood trees.

Best of all I knitted and drank tea everyday. Everyday I had time for myself.

Well, that was great but the best thing was hearing the squeals and shreaks of joy as my mom and Sofia played with a bar of soap and a sink full of water.

We learned about dinosaurs and ate with manarays.

It felt so wonderful to just talk and talk and talk until my mind felt empty, but my heart felt full. I think I will try to make this pilgrimage home every year.
