While many of you are just feeling the melt of the last spring snow, down here in the desert I've already got summers garden going! The last of the winter spring garden is coming out daily in the form of salads, pasta with dark greens and tasty raw carrot snacks with the tops on because that's just fun!
I just planted mexican paste tomates, zucchini, butternut squash, rosa bianca eggplants and Italian long sweet peppers. All but the tomatoes were started from seeds. I'm still waiting on the san marzano tomatoes that I started from seeds, they are taking a while to get going!
What are you planting?

Have a great weekend
Thank you very much!! I've never heard of this but it sure is neat!
DeleteWe have tomatoes, peppers, basil, strawberries, lettuce, carrots, and some pea and broccoli plants past their prime (my husband planted them so I don't know the exact varieties). Next fall I really need to get some kale in the ground since I buy so much of it. Your garden looks beautiful! (P.S. We are going on vacation this week - I'd love to get together again when we are back in town!).
ReplyDeleteYour garden sounds lovely! I need to try broccoli next year. Kale too. Let's definitely work out some sort of get together! Have a great vacation!
DeleteOh, I am so jealous!! I am actually just getting ready to start my indoor seeds, and will be doing some direct sowing next week.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so wonderful KC!!
Happy Easter!
Thank you! What can you grow so far north? I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!
DeleteI have pumpkins, basil, and at least one butternut squash seedlings started and thriving under a grow light in my basement. I have San Marzano tomatoes that are taking forever, and I'm not sure if it's because they are just slow or because the seeds are two years old and they're not going to do anything--but reading that yours are taking awhile encouraged me that maybe mine are just taking their time getting started. We are expecting 15 cm of snow tonight! (GAH!) But hopefully soon, when it warms up a little bit and the soil is workable, I'll be planting spinach, peas, beans, carrots, and swiss chard. I also have to start some canteloupe inside! We just found out that our community garden is going to be a go so I will definitely have a place to garden this year. So excited!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a lot of great stuff! The San Marzano's are taking so long to grow. They are only an inch high right now and it's been weeks and weeks. I have them under a grow light but not sure what else todo for them. I look forward seeing you community plot!
DeleteI have only started seeds as we are still a good month away from planting outside....in the collection are tomatillos, coriander, basil, marigolds, zinnias and cucumbers.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks great!
Fun! I have yet to get the basil out there. I was trying to grow from seed but the first round didn't make it. Not sure why. But I'm going to start again today. Good luck!
Deleteoh how wonderful! Sending good gardening vibes your way:) ~B
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll need them in the heat we're already getting!
Deletei love seeing everyone's current gardens and how much they differ around the country! my spring garden that i direct sowed is really starting to take off now that spring is actually here (kind of jumped the gun when we had a week of freak near 80 degree days in early march here in the northeast!). you've reminded me to start my indoor seeds for some of my summer crops- definitely lots of paste and sauce tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteWe had freak 80 degree weather too and it stuck around. We're already moving to 90 degrees! I've planted sauce tomatoes for the first time this year. I'm hoping to be able get us through the summer without buy tomatoes. However we are an italian family and i don't know that we would ever be able to can enough tomatoes to get us through the fall, winter and spring with out buying them!
