Garden explosion

While I was gone I left the garden in my husband's care hoping and praying he wouldn't kill everything! Luckily he did not! Rather, in that time everything exploded. I love this time in the garden where the plants race to get to full size, growing inches in a single day.

I must admit it is strange to have butternut squash already in May. I think I will need to plant again in July to get a fall harvest. Planted that one way to early. Zucchini are coming in along with lots of tomatoes. As of this morning the eggplant has flowered as well. The chard despite the horrible heat wave is still going strong!

Lastly, I want to get your opinion on something. I want to write a book. It would be recipes with photo instructions on how to make all your pantry staples. Such as baking powder, mustard, mayo, pickles, flour, yogurt, bread etc. I'm a make it from scratch kind of gal and I find it a fun challenge to make my own basic ingredients. I have yet to find a book that shows you how make these things. Most of them just have a recipe.  Would you all be interested in something like that. If so in what format? print or pdf e-book? Thanks!

Have a lovely day.

  1. Print. Print. Print. It needs to live on the kitchen counter, covered in flour, oil and whatnot.
I'm still cracking up at that BNsquash of yours. We haven't even started having squash sex yet! But our eggplants look about the same and we also got cute little purple flowers this week.
    Enjoy!

  2. Wow, that butternut squash is awesome!! I just put mine in the ground last weekend.

I am a print kinda gal, but since I have done this before you should keep in mind cost if you are going to have a ton of pics - colour pics cost a lot. You have to figure out what it would cost to print the book and then what you want to sell it for, you know, so you make a little bit of money on it :) Good luck and if you have any questions about it let me know.

  3. Print, especially if it's got a lot of photos. Sounds like a wonderful idea!!
