Weekending into nature

This weekend was oh so full.

:: hiking with friends and finding sooo many caterpillars
:: a drive along the top of the world or rather the Sky Islands
:: whole wheat and rye sourdough bread perfected. recipe to come
:: day time bath to cool off hot tempers
:: our first storm of the monsoon season!
:: making silly faces to calm fears of thunder
:: an adventure into growing fungus!

linking up with Amanda for Weekending and Heather for {into nature}

  2. Saw that same kit at the grocer here. Can't wait to see how it goes. Looks like a lovely weekend! I could eat that entire loaf of bread. Oh, and please send some of those monsoons this way. The High park fire is still raging.

    1. I wish I could. We're looking at a high of 109 tomorrow! What ever rain that was, was a freak storm. We aren't looking at any clouds again for weeks. My garden is really suffering. Wait till I post the picture of all the shade covers I put up yesterday.

  3. Oh, I've been thinking about shade covers. We're in the mid 90's all week. 98 today and windy so my girl and I headed to the pool. The chard is suffering but manages to perk up every night.

    1. Some how my chard perks up too. I really hadn't imagined it as a summer time crop. Well done on going to the pool. Being pregnant during the summer really makes things sluggish. V was born in August and S in October so I spent both pregnancies during the summer!

  4. i love the contrast of the desert against the greenery! and oh my, that bread does look scrumptious!!! hurray for bread perfection! i'm still working on perfecting a really tasty honey wheat sandwich bread, always comes out a bit too dense.

    1. The green against the desert. I think all the time about how without all the canals that the ancient people built we would have no water here at all. It's really incredible how they wanted to live here despite the heat.

      As for the bread, I find that using vital wheat gluten really helps. If you can eat gluten it makes all the difference.

  6. Loved your Italian bread story so had to visit your blog. I was baking bread frequently last year but now it's once a week or so as my boys are both in school and i'm working part time. yours looks delicious.
