For two days and two night we spent all out time at 9100 ft above sea level. We went up to Hannagan Meadow Lodge in the White Mountains. We had a lovely time trudging around in shin deep snow. Our cabin was a quaint two room affair with a small bath room and kitchen. My favorite part was the wood burning stove. I was skeptical at first, that the stove would keep us warm. But gosh darn it, we got that thing raging hot and it was 80 degrees inside at one point and we had to open a window. I believe all those homesteading mama bloggers out there who say they want a wood fired stove.
Our drive up there wasn't too bad considering it was a 5 hour trip. Sofia did very well until the last 30 miles when her gums started to bother her. When we got there we unpacked and played in the snow for a bit until it got too cold. Then we went inside and started a fire. We had dinner at the lodge and then went back to our cabin to snuggle by the fire.
The next day we spent the hours leisurely going from playing with blocks and playdough by the fire to tromping in the snow getting our noses cold. For lunch I made tortellini in brodo (broth). Yummy! That night we had dinner at the lodge again . The next morning we head out early as a huge storm was coming in. At 8 am it was already snowing. As I type this now it's actually snowing here in Tucson! Needless to say we'll be going up to the cabin again next year.
Last note: here we are on the way out, having breakfast in Alpine at the Bear Wallow Cafe. It's a great little mountain restaurant. Sofia had the bear/pig pancake featured above.
looks like so much fun!
