Today we are frozen. Yesterday it rained and rained and then began to snow! Here in Tucson at 2800 ft it was snowing. Of course it didn't stick, but still we got the experience of standing out side while it snowed.
Then around 3 the sun came out for a brief time. But so did the wind at 40 mph. That when it got really cold. I covered up the plants in my raised beds. And pulled up the beets and parsnips.
In the we hours of the morning this morning the temperature dropped to 27 degrees and our pipes froze. I needless to say I was not happy, not one bit. Whoever built the house we are renting, put the main water pipes out side exposed to the air. So during the summer the water is burning hot and during the winter it freezes. Arggg....Today is also cloudy with occasional snow sprinkles, so it's cold again. We some how were lucky enough that the pipes thawed. We went out to breakfast this morning because of the water and when we got back the water was running from the faucets I left open. Yippie.
Tonight, tomorrow and the next night, we are to have deep freezing again, so I will make sure to keep the faucets dripping......
KC, take some towels and wrap your pipes...ours are also exposed, and we wrap them and run a very slow drip overnight every time the temps run below freezing; we've never had our pipes freeze yet. Hope it helps :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice. The night before last I left the faucet open and it worked. However last night I left it open with a slower drip and it still froze. Tonight since we are supposed to have one more freeze, I will put the towel around the pipes which already have foam wrapped around them and leave it to drip faster. Hopefully that will be the last I have to deal with it.
