Like the bees out in my garden I've been so busy over the weekend. Saturday was spent doing nothing but being a family. Sunday was spent cleaning out the garage and making sourdough bread. We hadn't touched a thing in there since we moved in. There were empty move in boxes and boxes to be recycled and of course unopened boxes. It took us 4 hours but it feels wonderful now every time we pull into the garage.
And of course the bread turned out great like last time.
We also cut open the first wheel of cheddar I made 4 months ago. It's tangy. The flavor of cheddar is definitely there. There is so much to learn about cheese making. I've dropped the ball a bit and picked up bread instead.
I would like to pick it up again before the baby is born. Cheese making, like baking bread is a dedicated art. Though bread is much more forgiving. With cheese making, everything has to be totally sterile. You only want the friendly cultures going into it. I really really want to make a really good wheel of cheddar and Gouda. So I'll just need to persevere like I did with the sourdough and reread my book on cheese making and really take it step by step. Of course I make soft cheese all the time, ricotta, cream cheese, yogurt, buttermilk and chevre.
Today I received an awesome awesome present in the mail. A top of the line computerized sewing machine. I'm so excited to put it to use. I'm already knee deep in projects waiting to get done. Summer clothes for Sofia and I. Presents for a sweet little baby due at the beginning of June. Table linens, kitchen towels. Hand made toys.... the list always being added too. Especially now that I have so many cool stitch options. Clothing with buttons here we come!
I also cleaned the carpets today and took Sofia to zoo while they dried. I'm am exhausted and in need of a break. Good thing were going camping this weekend. A trip to the woods is just the thing to help me slow down a bit.
