Impromptu skirt
Last night I made this little skirt for Sofia from a small remnant piece I bought at SAS. I just wanted to practice some of the stitch functions on my new sewing machine and see how it worked out with knit fabrics.
I learned a lot from making this skirt. It turned out really cute. But in constructing it I did things all backwards and difficult. All I wanted to do was create a gathered waist band. I was thinking about shirring.
I tried out shirring with elastic thread and that did nothing, so I aborted the elastic thread and tried gathering with three lines of basting stitches which I then sewed an elastic band on top of. Needless to say this is not the way to go about it. To time consuming.
What I should have done was stretch out the elastic band and sewn it on to the fabric. Live and learn. It was a good lesson and Sofia seems to love the skirt.
I also made this trash bag for the car. It hangs off the back of your seat. I took the pattern from One Yard Wonders. Lovely little book by the way.
I should have shown it to you in the car, but as I mentioned in the marshmallow post, we're going camping so the car it full of stuff...
