As most of you know we cloth diaper around here. So naturally I wasn't going to go out and by a ton of disposables to bring along on our vacation. Using cloth on vacation wasn't hard at all. I just set aside a little time before going to bed to wash the few diapers that Sofia used that day and hung them up to dry.
I have 24 pocket diapers in my stash. So I brought all of them plus 10 extra fillers.
I brought both wet bags that I have, this small one for day time use and this larger one for storing until time to wash. Side note: I made the larger one for when the baby arrives so I have room enough for two sets of dirty diapers.
As you can see the sink we had was very small. So here's how I went about washing the diapers. I took the fillers out first and soaked them in cold water for twenty minutes. Then rinsed them well. Then I filled sink with warm/ hot water as hot as I could stand really. Then I added some soap (the one I usually wash diapers with from home). I scrubbed and scrubbed until I felt the water was coming out clean. Then I rinsed one more time and wrung them out really really well and hung them on the shower curtain rod to dry over night. I repeated the process with the shells. It took me about 20 minutes of active work.
I don't think there is any more pleasant place to change diapers then by the ocean! You might ask what about the poopy ones and what if they don't dry? As far as the poopy diapers I just tried to get as much off as I could when I changed the diaper. Then when it came time to wash I soaked the poopy ones separately. Luckily we only had 3 poopy diapers the whole trip!
We did have two days of rain and 96 percent humidity so line drying the diapers inside took a long time. But I anticipated this by bringing extra fillers. I also used the room's blow dryer to dry some of the shells. I never ended up running out of diapers as I planned around our normal home washing schedule of every two days. Since we were only gone a week, I washed diapers twice and that was it.
Of course you could always wait a few days until you have a bunch and then take them to a local laundry mat.
I hope this was helpful!
