A little bit of sewing for new born and toddler...

Back in May, my mom bought the Ice Cream Dress pattern for me. I finally got around to making it this past weekend.

It wasn't hard to make, just time consuming. I highly recommend following all her pressing and basting advice because the quality of the finished product is really great. I'm glad I've learned some tricks to making real smart-looking homemade clothing. Maybe after the baby is born I'll consider sewing some garments and adding them to my shop.

Sofia really likes this dress and wore it to the 4th of July party we went to on Monday. She promptly got chocolate cake on it. Thank goodness for washable cotton fabrics.

The dress is slightly large but I wanted her to be able to wear it until fall and then maybe as a shirt later on.

I also made this quick, super soft, throw blanket for Sofia. Not that she needs it for the warmth, it's just nice to play on right now since she's in diaper-only mode. I've wanted to make a blanket from this for almost a year now since I made that monkey costume for her last Halloween. I had lots of fabric left over and thought it would make a perfect blanket.

The next thing I've been up to is making changing table pad covers for Baby P's changing table.

I used this tutorial from Prudent Baby. It's so easy I make two in 30 minutes.

I want to make another one that's flannel for when it gets colder.

I also have two other projects for the baby in the works. One is a sleep sack from the Anna Marie Horner book Handmade Beginnings. The other is a soft-sided co-sleeper to put in between our pillows. Last time Daniele was bit worried about sleeping with Sofia as a newborn in the bed so we had her in a bassinet next to me until about three months. Then she moved in with us. But this time I want to have Baby P in the bed so I can just feed her lying down. It will have removable sides for easy nighttime breastfeeding. The sides will be soft but firm so that Daniele will feel those and know he is close to her but that he can't roll on top of her. It's a bit hard to explain without pictures but I think it will be ingenious. Once I have it all sewn up I will post pictures. Then, if anyone is interested I will post a tutorial and the pattern I made. Stayed tuned, I'm excited for this.
