Weekending

This weekend we headed into the woods. It was good to escape the heat and the city noise. Once again we managed to pick the free weekend to get out. This  particular day it was "Get Out Doors Day" and so there was no campsite fee.

We camped, we hiked, we slept smashed together.  Oh and don't forget eating watermelon until we were bursting at the seams. I hope your weekend was lovely too!

    1. Thanks it was lovely! Did you notice how our mattress has us all sunk in the middle like a hammock? It deflated in the middle of the night.

    1. We had a lovely time. It was really windy so there were no fires aloud. Luckily I'm always prepared for that and bring a camp stove. I made marshmallows with sucnat but we only ate two of them... Next trip we're going up higher into older forests. MT. Lemmon is much too over used. It looks like it needs to be closed off for a few years.

    1. And they did! Watermelon juice everywhere. All clothing was promptly removed and stored away to avoid ants!

  5. Looks lovely. I have been dreaming of going camping lately... we just haven't been able to make it yet. Soon though, I can feel it!

    1. You'll make it. It's not to hard with a car. You just take at baby pace.

  6. I could definitely eat watermelon forever and a day! Lovely trail to be hiking and you are making memories that will last forever for the kiddos (and you!) :)

    1. It was really lovely. Tucked into a little canyon. From all the ferns you would think there was water but no luck. In the desert most of the water is underground.

  7. Such fun. I can smell the inside of a tent just looking at the pics.

    1. That's fun! We're going to need a new tent. This one is in good condition but not quite big enough for the 4 of us. Although they say 4 person tent really it's two people.

    1. We were quite snuggly! We're thinking of getting a bigger tent because 4 people plus the air mattress was too much. After years of backpacking with a small sleeping pad the air mattress is like heaven! We were so warm and comfy at night. I can't wait to see your trip! I'm going to be linking up more often now that I found you through Kim.

  9. Where did you go? We're about ready for some car camping, and thought we'd start out on Mt. Lemmon, but after your comment above, I'd love some other ideas! You know what we need, kid-friendly, not terribly far away, some easier hiking paths :)

    1. Actually where we went was really lovely! I think you should start there. The lack of water was only due to the lack of rain. The place was called General Hitchcock Camp Ground. There is a really nice path as you saw from some of the pictures above, that runs right out of the campground. It's tent only as well. I also love going to Safford. Though that is really far, like 3 hours. Let's talk more in person!

    2. Oh, 3 hours is nothing! The boys can certainly handle that...when I said "too far" I meant a bit longer, sorry :)

    3. Then you should totally go up to Mt. Graham. We like to go to Soldier Creek but there are 5 or six other spots. It's amazing up there. They have a lake, lots of trails and old growth forest. You'll feel like your in the Northwest almost! We'll be going there in August.
