One Turn Around the Sun
This weekend V completed her first turn around the sun. I spent Saturday reflecting on our birth experience together. I like to joke with a good friend of mine that the low-pressure system brought her out because the night she was born there was a very large thunderstorm. Her her birth was peaceful and intimate because it was in the middle of the night, while S was at our house asleep with a friend watching her, while hubby and I went to the birth center. Our midwife was very unobtrusive and let us just be together. We worked through every contraction together. It was peaceful and unhurried. I feel it was much like her personality. Easy.
This year has been an incredible learning experience for all of us. Filled with joy, laughter, tears, rage, jealousy, laughter, love, gratitude, frustration, and a roller coaster of ups and downs. I would love to say that this year was easy and S transitioned well to being a big sister. In all honesty, she didn't. It was frustrating, aggravating and sometimes scary. She most definitely wanted to give V back. But now she can't remember life without her and doesn't want to give her back. They play together, fight together and laugh together. It's a dynamic that I'll never quite understand, but one that I so look forward to watching develop.
We celebrated this day with friends and family and good food. I even managed to make a birthday crown and a number one for our birthday ring.
V brings us joy and laughter, teaches us patience and kindness and brings a little bit of silliness to our lives. I am so honored to be her mama and I can only hope that I return the favor someday.

Beautiful! I love the last picture. It definitely looks like S is quite proud to have little one year old V in her life. May they continue to find love, friendship, silliness and support from one another as they grow together. Hugs to you all!
ReplyDeleteThank you! There will be a few more pictures to come as I want to join up with you tomorrow! :)
DeleteA lovely post KC!! Happy birthday to V and happy birthing day to you! Hoping her next trip around the sun is filled with laughter, love and adventure.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I think this next year will be so much easier. :)
DeleteAw, Happy Birthday Little One! I definitely think there is something to your theory about her being born the night of a thunderstorm... 2 of my 3 boys were born during the full moon, and the L&D units were packed with babies coming into the world! When Lars was born 6 months ago, they played a gentle little chime throughout the unit when a baby was born, and that thing went off constantly for 2 days--I loved it, it will be a special memory for me.
ReplyDeleteI heard about the full moon births too. As we are all connected why would weather and moon cycles have an effect on births?!
DeleteHappy birthday to your beautiful little girl and to you! My oldest wanted to give his brother back as well, still does some days, but overall it is a relationship that is incredible to watch. My sister and I are 10 years apart so it is very foreign to me to watch the bond they have, the intimacy. It only gets better and better. Enjoy this next trip around the sun and may many many more follow after!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm glad to hear that it will be get better and better for them. I wish for them the most loving relationship because a sibling can be a friend for life.
DeleteOh my goodness, that is so very sweet. Congrats to you on your babe's first birthday, and enjoy all those sweet birth day moments :).
ReplyDeleteThank you Heather! I used many tutorials from ROTH for her birthday decorations and presents!
DeleteLove this post. Cash was born during a thunderstorm too, 2 days early. I so understand your appreciation for an unobtrusive midwife...we also had one. We are going through a bit of what you mentioned with the big sibling frustration, but Zia is 5 and very rational--so I found that talking about everything and expressing my love for her really helps. I know it will get better too, as you said it did with yours.
ReplyDeleteHappy first birthday, little one!
