A rag doll and a pillow case

This afternoon before Sofia's nap I finished a pillow case for her bed pillow. Since she has been sleeping in her own bed for months now I thought I was high time she have some of her own linens.Especially after last weeks bout of sickness where she vomited blueberries all over one of my favorite pillow cases. Thank goodness for oxygen bleach! In any case, I found this cute bird fabric at SAS a while ago and had put it into the cue to become a pillow case. I used another pillow case as guide for the size. Then I hemmed the chosen opening side and sewed up the other two sides. I would say it's the easiest project I've ever done. I highly recommend pillow cases for beginner sewers!

Now for the next thing, meet Josephine. She is Sofia's first doll. About two weeks ago we went into my favorite toy store Mildred and Dildred just to look around. When we reached the play house area at the back Sofia (without prompting) picked up all four of the baby dolls they had and carried them around in her arms. I had quite a time convincing her to put them down. So I went over to their doll section to see if I could find any cloth dolls. They had only one and it was like a Waldorf doll. Only problem was she was way beyond my budget. So I said alright, make her one of her own.
I made this doll up, no guide other then a quick sketch in my notebook. I've never made a doll before so this was my first try. She's quite cute. With a little Amelie style hair due. I wasn't quite sure about the face, so it's a bit flat. But Sofia loves her and pushes her around in this little stroller all over the house.  Now she needs some clothing. Perfect way to use up all the small remnants I get from SAS.

This morning I found a great pattern for cloth dolls in Martha's Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts. I think I will try that next if Sofia really takes an interest in dolls.
